Our local papers say both of our sheriff candidates are pretty equal when it comes to their answers to questions put to them at forums or by the papers. So let me tell you why I think Brent Johnson is the clear choice for our next sheriff.
I have been a Deputy with the Sheriff’s Office for more than 22 years. In the eight years I have worked with Brent, I have been impressed to know that Brent moved here from a 20-year career with the Albuquerque Police Department. He worked his way up the ranks and worked hard to make his community a better place to live.
After his retirement, he bought a home in the San Juans and moved here with his family. Because of his love for police work he joined our department as our Lead Detective. Brent has been involved in most of our major cases, solving nearly 90 percent of them. People ask why they don’t know who Brent is. It is because he often works tirelessly following up on cases, convincing the Prosecutor‘s Office to try the cases and gathering what’s needed to win the cases.
Brent is already familiar with working in the main office of the Sheriff‘s Department and has worked directly with not only all of our personnel there, with both judges and corrections staff as well as with outside agencies such as Customs, FBI, Coast Guard and the DEA.
Over the years, I have known officers who have moved from one department to the next, gaining higher positions or ranks, but Brent Johnson is not that officer. He was committed to Albuquerque for 20 years and he will be committed to our community as well. When he is elected our next sheriff, he will give us years of dedicated service and make our community a better place to live. That’s the difference that makes Brent Johnson the best candidate for Sheriff.
