The mostly swing band, Orcatrazz, will be performing at the dinner buffet fundraiser to benefit Orcas Family Health Center’s well child program, primary care program and X-ray center on Dec. 12 at the Orcas Center.
“The name is because we are stuck on an island,” says bandleader Ken Speck. “Only we love it. We have serious fun and enjoy making music of the big band era with the occasional rock-and-roll song for the younger crowd.”
For the dinner show, the band has planned some swinging great big band sounds of the holiday season with some favorite Christmas music. The band members have varied experiences ranging from amateur to professional and include students, music teachers, and studio musicians.
The band members are: Bob Littlewood on clarinet, Tom Slater, Sam Winsor, Greg Books, Judy Whiting and Ginny Hawker playing saxophones, Trombone players Karen Key Speck, Joe Boucher and Dimitri Stankevich, on trumpets Pat Muffett, Dave Durand, Russ Harvey and Linda Griffith, piano players Don McLean and Ron Meyers, on bass Lizz Hanks, playing the guitar is Chris Waage, Randy Jezierski is the drummer, and Beth Baker is the vocalist.
The Buffet dinner starts at 7 p.m. and there is limited seating. The music will start at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple and available by calling Ken Speck at 376.2202.
