“Overall,” she said, “our mental focus is much improved but our serving was sub-par. Normally we serve in the 80-85 percent range but today we only managed 64 percent.”

Emily PostvanderBurg had 21 attempts at the net, 10 kills and her serving was 14/19; Gwenna Coiley had 14 attacks at the net, racking up seven kills and serving 16/20, Erin Wilbur served 8/17 times and had three attacks and one kill, while Sarah Stanley made eight out of 14 serves and had three attacks and one kill. Tamira Vojnar made nine of her 15 serves, Marina Steinbrueck made eight attacks and four kills, Malisha Burson completed 14 of her 22 serves and had five attacks and two kills. Lilly Ewert had one kill at the net.

Coach Altona smiled, “I’ve never seen Emily hit so hard. She managed to just blast the ball an amazing number of times with scary accuracy.”

This is Coach Altona’s first year as head coach of the Lobos volleyball team and her team has done impressively all season long. But on Friday, Oct. 17, in a hard-fought set of games, the Lady Lobos succumbed to North Sound Christian, losing three out of four games to NSC.

Time and again the Lobos sent powerful serves over the net that were never returned by the opposing team, and Emily PostvanderBurg and Sarah Stanley both had numerous attacks at the net and kills to weak points on the other side of the court. But the opposition was just as determined, and many times the Lady NSC team was able to recover from vicious spikes and well-returned volleys.

The Lopez volleyball team plays again at home against Grace Academy on Tuesday, Oct. 21 and in Marysville on Friday Oct. 24 against the Marysville Sophomores.
