The general election is Nov. 3 and the candidates for school board, fire commissioner, and sewer commissioner are gearing up for two public forums.

The PTSA forum for the school board candidates will be at the school library on Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 5:30 to 7:30.

The League of Women Voters of the San Juans is presenting a forum for all Orcas candidates on Monday, Oct. 12 at the Orcas Senior Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Those who have been invited include: Orcas School Board Directors #1: Jim Sullivan and Chris Sutton and position #2: Tony P. Ghazel and Robert Connell. SJC Fire Commissioners, position #2 : Henry “Duff” Andrews and Clyde Duke, and position #3: Barbara G. Bedell and Pierrette Guimond. Eastsound Sewer and Water Commissioner position #3 :Harvey Aldort and Gregory M. Ayers. Orcas Island Park and Recreation Commissioner position #1: Marion O’Brien and Vicki Vandermay.

In addition, they are inviting proponents and opponents of the Fireworks Referendum, the SJC Property Tax Levy, and the Orcas Island Park and Recreation Levy to answer questions.
