The Orcas high school golf team began their season with a four school league match hosted by Friday Harbor on March 18.
The girls’ team won their match led by Melissa-Moran Hodge who shot a 47 to become the girls’ medalist. Jenna Schmidt carded a 68 and Maddy Smith brought in a 68 to round out the team score.
The boy’s team finished second behind the very hot Friday Harbor team. Sophomore Henri Bredouw was the Vikings low scorer with 41, followed by Anthony Ghazel with 43, Taylor Diepenbrock with 45, Roy Miller with 46 and a tie between Alan Coe and newcomer Chris Troutman with 53.
“The kids did a great job on such a cold and windy day,” said coach Bobby Olmsted. “I was very pleased with them all.”
Olmsted went on to say, “We have a promising season ahead. Everyone has a good attitude and is working hard to meet their pre-seaon goals. I’m especially pleased with our new players.”
