The Orcas Kings Senior Youth Football team has gotten off to an exciting start this season.

Coached by Denny Rancourt, the Kings began practice on July 28. Dedication to hard work has paid off with a 48-0 pasting of Darrington and a hard fought loss to a much larger Anacortes team. The Senior Kings traveled to Lakewood High School on Sept. 13.

The Orcas Junior Kings, also coached by Rancourt and led by quarterback Dimitri Pence, fought out a tough win against a physically larger South Whidbey team on Sept. 6.

Tied going into the half, the Kings defense lead by veterans Wayne Foster, Joe Kostechko, Nate Lawson, and Jay Zier shut down South Whidbey. The Kings offense opened it up in the second half with two touchdown runs by running back Gage Harlow in a 25-13 win.

The Kings will host their first home game in many years on Sept. 20 against Friday Harbor.

Midget teams from Friday Harbor and Sedro Woolley play at 10 a.m., Orcas Juniors play Friday Harbor at noon, and Orcas Seniors play Friday Harbor at 2 p.m.

Admission is free.
