Starting Aug. 20, Eastsound Water Users Association (EWUA) and OPALCO are working with Island Excavating on a joint project along Olga Road between Crescent Beach Road and Bromley Lane. EWUA General Manager Paul Kamin announced that EWUA is installing 3,500 feet of eight-inch water main to replace outdated three-inch pipes. OPALCO’s work involves burying powerlines and conduit underground in preparation for removing overhead service in the near future.
Temporary service has been planned for those along the construction route, so water and power service outages should be minimal. The work is planned through the public right-of-way but far enough off the roadway so as not to disturb traffic during the construction process. The work should be complete in early October.
In other news, Kamin announced that EWUA’s annual meeting is scheduled for Sept. 23 at the Orcas Senior Center from 5 to 7 p.m. Members will be voting on candidates for two open EWUA board positions, and receiving updates on EWUA’s progress and continuing efforts to develop new water sources to meeting the needs of the Eastsound service area.
