The Lopez Lobos soccer team put up a heart-felt fight against a very powerful North Sound Christian organization, falling to NSC 6-2 in an exuberant battle of skill and quickness last Friday.

While the younger Lobo team controlled the ball with great skill, NSC maintained possession and kept the Lobos constantly on the defensive. Arlen Coiley, goalie for the Lobos, stopped the NSC team from scoring multiple times, making some diving saves and at one point, snatching the ball from a NSC defender who leapt over Coiley’s head to avoid kicking the goalie.

Tahoma Wrubleski, Moira Crawford and Brooke Schober played aggressively and tussled with the bigger team for possession of the ball many times. Charlie O’Neil’s control and speed, as well as Sebastian Lasbo’s deft control of the ball down-pitch were great attributes for the Lobos. Emmett Lawrence had several shots on goal but, constantly hampered by NSC interference, the shots went high over the net. Several penalties were called, mostly offsides on the opposition, but the Lobos remain undaunted, continuing to improve their passing accuracy and playing as a team.

The Lopez Soccer team also played against Providence Christian this week, falling to Providence 1-3 on Tuesday Oct. 14. The Lobos play again on Oct. 21 at Lopez School against Grace Academy and on Oct. 28 away against North Sound Christian.
