Children of all ages are invited to a free performance by musician Hans Mayer at the Orcas Public Library on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 1:30 p.m.
The concert will celebrate the end of the summer reading program. Mayer will perform on the lawn of Orcas Island Library weather permitting. Listeners are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair for the grass.
Mayer and his wife, Carol Erickson, lived on Orcas from 2004 to 2007 and continue to visit regularly. As a musician, Mayer writes songs, sings, and plays many instruments including guitar, mandolin, and Native American flute. He has performed for children as well as for adult audiences. Mayer’s child-oriented music is known for its playful, fun-loving spirit that attracts people of all ages.
Mayer’s album, “Star of the Swingset,” won recognition as a 2000 Parents’ Choice Foundation Recommended Title, and his 2008 album, “Funny Little Creatures,” was selected as a Parents’ Choice Approved Title and as a Children’s Music Web Award Winner. The final day of the summer reading program is Aug. 22. Orcas Island Library presents Mayer’s performance to celebrate the young readers who participated by reading many books in the summer reading program.
