In preparation for this year’s chip seal paving work on San Juan Island, the Public Works department will load and barge 550 tons of crushed rock from Orcas Island to San Juan Island beginning May 10.
Public Works Operations Manager Russ Harvey estimates that county trucks on Orcas will make approximately 400 trips from the Dolphin Bay Quarry to a barge at West Sound on Monday and Tuesday, May 10 and 11. Trucks on San Juan Island will make about the same number of trips unloading the gravel at the county barge landing near Jackson Beach and transporting it to the county’s storage area on Beaverton Valley Road on May 12 and 13.
Drivers are advised to keep an eye out for truck traffic on those days. Maps of the routes the trucks will be traveling are available online at: http://sanjuanco.com/docs/chipseal/gravel_truckroutes.pdf.
Chip seal schedules and maps will be posted and updated regularly on the County website as the project prepares to get underway.
