Orcas Center is pleased to announce the addition of two special music presentations to the fall 2008 schedule of events. On Saturday, Sept. 27, Grammy-award-winning guitarist Bill Frisell will perform, and the Seattle Chamber Players will perform on Sunday, Oct. 5.

Orcas fans of Bill Frisell are absolutely thrilled to have this internationally renowned and versatile musician visit for a solo show. Seattle-based Frisell is a prolific and eclectic artist whose musical styles range widely from jazz, blues, country, and rock. His span of musical associates includes Elvis Costello, Burt Bacharach, Rickie Lee Jones, John Zorn, Ginger Baker, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, Suzanne Vega, Loudon Wainwright III, Marianne Faithful, John Scofield, Wayne Horvitz, Robin Holcomb and Rinde Eckert, and he has scored films by Gus Van Zant and Wim Wenders.

The Seattle Chamber Players has an increasingly international reputation for their superb artistry, spirited and crisp performances and daring programming. The ensemble is comprised of three key players of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, and a professor of music at Cornish College of the Arts. The symphony members are Laura DeLuca (clarinet), David Sabee (cello), and Mikhail Shmidt (violin) and the Cornish professor is Paul Taub (flute). They have toured and performed extensively in Eastern Europe and were featured on Saint Paul Sunday with Bill McLaughlin. Their vast repertoire includes works from 20th and 21st century composers as well as from historical classical composers, and their program for the Orcas audience will include selections from both.
