Orca Environmental Fair

The 5th annual Orca Festival Environmental Fair will be held on May 16 and

17 at the Orcas Dock from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Environmental groups will share information, promote stewardship and celebrate the ecological system of the Salish Sea and the surrounding wildlife.

The festival will focus on ways people can work together to protect and sustain the marine environment of the Salish Sea and San Juan Islands archipelago Orca Pods.

Orcas Island Public school children’s art and essays will be on display all day.

At noon, John Mottl of “Rainshadow Solar” will speak on power alternatives and global warming and set up his solar fountain.

Exhibits will include the Whale Museum, YMCA, Camp Orkila’s Outdoor Education Environmental Program, the Sea Doc Society, San Juan Preservation Trust, Beach Watchers of San Juan County, Long live the Kings, Orca Conservancy, Eric Morris Earth Ball, Marine Resource Committee, The Center for Whale Research I.D. charts & CD’s and San Juans Historic Lighthouse Environmental group.

Special guest, Hollywood producer, actor and activist, Raul Julia-

Levy will speak about the “Free Lolita” campaign at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and will participate in a cruise with Orcas Island Eclipse Charters departing at 1:30 and 5 p.m. Reservations for the cruise may be made at 376-6566.

The event is organized by Denise and Captain Daniel Wilk of the charter company and is open to the public at no charge.
