Maura O’Neill will give a lecture on the religion of Islam in the Lundeen Room of the Orcas Island Senior Center on Wednesday, March 16 at 7 p.m.
“As our world becomes smaller and smaller and as we come in contact with different points of view, different cultures and different religions, curiosity increases,” organizers say.
O’Neill has her Ph.D. in Philosophy of Religion from Claremont Graduate University and has taught college courses on world religions for over 21 years. She is the author of two books on inter-religious dialogue: “Women Speaking, Women Listening” and “Mending a Torn World,” both published by Orbis Books.
“Her lecture will cover the history, beliefs and practices of this very important world religion so that there will be a basis for understanding what is happening in our complex world,” organizers say.
All interested persons are invited to attend. A voluntary donation will be accepted at the door.
