As the culmination of a week-long residency with the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT), approximately 55 Orcas children, ages 5-13, will perform a musical version of The Amazing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe. Join the hula dancing Chameleons and many other original characters at Friday’s Seaside Resort (Orcas Center) on Saturday, June 26 at 5:30 p.m. This musical adaptation will be presented as part of MCT’s unique international touring project.
MCT, the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for 37 years, and will visit nearly 1,300 communities this year with up to 45 teams of Tour Actors/Directors. MCT’s artists arrive in a given town with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play…except the cast.
One such team arrived on Orcas last Sunday, June 20, and on Monday they held auditions with participants from the Theatre Camp sponsored by Orcas Center and Orcas Island Recreation Program. Throughout the week, the visiting artists are working with a core group of 9 children cast in the main roles, while the other participants rehearse songs and study acting and dancing with local teaching artists.
This musical version of Robinson Crusoe is a loose adaptation of the Daniel Defoe classic. One performance only, at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, will be held on the Center Stage at Orcas Center. Tickets are $17, $13 for Orcas Center members and $9 for students. Tickets may be purchased at www.orcascenter.org, or in person or over the phone during regular box office hours: Thursday-Saturday, noon-4 p.m. 376-2281 ext.1. If the cost of Orcas Center tickets prevents an individual or family from attending a performance, please call the box office to explore free and discounted tickets made available through the generosity of an Orcas Center donor.
