Food worker education and testing is now online, according to San Juan County’s Health and Community Services Department.

The food handling safety instruction and test costs $10 and requires payment with a MasterCard, Visa or Discover credit or debit card. A printer is also required to print out the card after the applicant passes the test.

The process takes an average of about 45 minutes. People who do not have access to a home computer may use computers at public libraries on San Juan, Lopez and Orcas Islands. The libraries ask test takers to call ahead to insure that 45-minutes to an hour of uninterrupted computer time will be available.
