Darlene Pohl, Assistant Director at The Funhouse, died on Aug. 26 at Highline Hospital. She had suffered an apparent heart attack on an airline flight on Monday, Aug. 18. Doctors on the commercial airplane administered CPR and she was immediately taken by ambulance to Highline Hospital in Burien, Wash., after a priority landing at Sea-Tac International Airport. Pohl has been unconscious and on life support since then, according to Pete Moe, Funhouse Executive Director. Doctors do not have any conclusive information on why Pohl’s heart stopped. “We are absolutely devastated,” said Moe. “Darlene is an unusually kind young woman whose influence and big heart are vital to many people, particularly the kids whose lives she touches daily. We are grateful for the incredible outpouring of support coming from the community and are moved by how many lives she has touched both in and outside The Funhouse.”
Darlene’s family, friends and many members of the Lighthouse Church were at her bedside. Her family has taken her back to Illinois for memorial services.
A memorial service on Orcas Island is being planned by The Funhouse and the Lighthouse Church, based on the wishes of the family. The date of the services will be announced at a later time.
