Deer Harbor Community Club members were entertained at their February potluck by their president, Mike Speece, and came away thinking they had found their very own “idol.” With a baritone voice, Speece played many old favorites on his guitar and led the group in a sing-a-long.

Speece first conducted the monthly meeting that reviewed several projects to improve the old historic building that was built as a school house in 1905. Later this month a work party will be called to tear down the front steps and construct new ones that will be sturdier, safer and enhance the building. Additional fundraising will be undertaken by the community club and the Deer Harbor Woman’s Auxiliary to install a new septic system, upgrade the heating system and replace the roof.

“It is good that we are now a 501c(3) non profit,” said treasurer Erik Smith. “A 104-year-old building is in constant need of repairs.”
