The acclaimed singer-songwriter Jim Page will be performing on Saturday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. as part of Orcas Center’s Spotlight in the OffCenter. The series this year invites visiting performers to the intimate black box theatre.
“I’ve been inspired by Jim Page since 1985, when I first heard him in Seattle as a 23 year old budding songwriter,” Carolyn Cruso, curator of the Spotlight series said. “His music spoke to me. In addition to the pithy socio/political pieces, he writes beautiful ballads that are timeless, as well as funny songs that will have you beside yourself with laughter.”
Page began his musical career by singing on the streets in New York and Seattle, where he was able to change the laws to be more favorable to artists who performed on the street. When testifying before the Seattle City Council on the issue, Page delivered his comments in a bluesy manner, accompanying himself on guitar.
Page has been on the scene for more than twenty years and has shared the stage with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Dan Bern, Michelle Shocked, Leftover Salmon, Mickey Hart, J.J. Cale, Robert Hunter, Chuck Brodsky, and John Hammond. Christy Moore, Michael Hedges, John Trudell, The Doobie Brothers, Joanne Rand, Casey Neill, and David Soul have performed his songs.
Often cited for his biting political pieces, Page is in constant demand by the social movements of the day.
All tickets for the limited seating performance are $12. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit www.orcascenter.org, call, or 360/376-2281 ext 1 during box office hours, Thursday to Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.
