There will be a class offered about the medicinal values of easy-to-find plants Saturday, Aug. 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Orcas Island Senior Center.
Participants will learn about common ways to use specific plants and make a first aid kit, tinctures (extracts), teas, disinfectants, anti-biotics, anti-virals, and poultices as well as learn basic herbal vocabulary, care for cough, cold, flu, bleeding, stings, sunburns, and more.
Participants will leave with handouts and some basics to start their kits, share knowledge and care for others. Instructor Ann Sullivan has a passion for learning about Medicinal plants and sharing that enthusiasm and knowledge with others. She will be coming to Orcas from Eugene. The class is for adults and youth ages 14-up. The cost is $25. Call the Orcas Island Recreation Program at 376-5339 to participate in this important and fun class.
