Passage for a few individuals can still be booked on the on the “Eclipse” charter boat for its Saturday, Sept. 13 exploration of Orcas Island history with the Historical Museum. The “Eclipse” will leave from the Orcas ferry dock at 1 p.m., for an afternoon of exploration to circumnavigate the island.

Tom Welch, local historian and author of the “Images of America: Orcas Island,” will take the group into the past as he describes the water routes and settlements of ative tribes, explorers and white homesteaders.

Some of the sites are known, and some still a mystery: Grindstone Harbor, Orcas, Dolphin Bay, Langdon, Olga, Doe Bay, Ocean, Massacre Bay , Deer Harbor. John Willis and Judi Watson (a Terrill descendant) will be on board to point out their historic seaside properties. A catered lunch and drink and “maritime” silent auction are included in the afternoon’s activities.

Reservations must be made in advance: $150 per person, $250 per couple (“Any two people signing up together- be creative!” says Historical Museum President Margot Shaw.)
