They fly, they swoop, they dispense mercy.
Come to this year’s first History Matinee and listen to Audrey Wells describe the history of volunteer mercy flights on Orcas Island. Audrey will have photos and stories to share about these wonderful folks who volunteer to fly residents off island to receive medical treatment. She will also explain how she first got hooked on flying.
This is the Orcas Island Historical Society’s first History Matinee for 2016 and it will be held on Sunday, April 17 at the Eastsound Firehall from 3 to 4:40 p.m. All of this year’s History Matinees will focus on elements of aviation history on Orcas, to complement the new exhibit opening at the Orcas Island Historical Museum on May 14th: “Wings Over Orcas.”
