Orcas Island artist Issa Parker has been selected to participate in an upcoming Seattle show, “Viable Resources: Artworks Selections from Regional Workplace Collections,” at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center. The show will be up until June 30. An artist reception is planned for Friday, June 19, 6:15 to 7:30 p.m.

The exhibit features 40 artists and 53 artworks culled from the art collections of the City of Seattle, King County, Safeco Insurance Company, Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center, and Washington State Arts Commission.

Parker’s sculpture “Port of Spain,” that will be featured in the show, was created in 1997 as a commission piece for the City of Seattle. It was created specifically for a hallway, and has rotated to different buildings throughout the city.

Parker attended the University of Washington and has a BA in art history and art. She was employed by the Nordic Heritage Museum and for ten years she worked for Artech, a company that handles the collection management of Seattle’s permanent and portable art collections and installations for the Seattle Art Museum, private galleries, and corporations.

Parker has lived on Orcas since 1997. She has created mosaics and still does occasional art installations for venues on the island.
