Our community has historically made it clear that it wants to support recycling as a community priority. The recent Public Works problems, and the new fees being charged at the county transfer stations, have made recycling items more costly than putting these items in the trash. I have talked to several contractors and citizens who are now choosing not to recycle.
As a result, I am asking for some local citizens to join me in a brainstorming meeting on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 11:45 a.m. on San Juan Island. We need to find ways to help our community recycle in a cost effective manner. Please call or email if you would like to be included in brainstorming solutions, providing suggestions, or in finding others in our county who might have helpful thoughts regarding our recycling problems. Contact me at 378-6473 or iwp@rockisland.com.
