A Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant in the amount of $3,000 was granted to the Farm to Cafeteria Program’s project entitled “Fifth Season: Savings Summer for Lunch.”

The grant will provide a significant boost to the program’s finances, allowing it to purchase a greater amount of food from Orcas farms as well as new equipment for processing and freezing summer crops to be used in lunches during the following school year.

“What a great way to ring in our new Farm to Cafeteria year!” said program committee chair Madie Murray. The Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant program is funded by the Lowe’s Charitable and Education Foundation, which has supported thousands of grassroots community and school projects in the communities where Lowe’s does business.

“I really didn’t think we had a chance for this grant since we have no Lowe’s on the island,” Murray said, “but apparently their presence in Bellingham and Mt. Vernon was close enough, and we are very grateful.”
