Friends for Life Animal Rescue will be holding an Adopt-A-Thon on Friday, Aug. 20 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. They will be located in the field on Argyle Street across from Land Bank.

Friends for Life is a non-profit no-kill rescue group based out of Burlington. It is made up of dedicated volunteers who strive to find loving, forever homes for the animals in our care. Instead of a central shelter, their animals are raised in foster homes where they receive love, medical care, socialization and one-on-one attention. The group currently has volunteers in Skagit, Whatcom and San Juan Counties.

“Many of our small dogs are rescued from a high-kill shelter in California through a transport system of dedicated animal lovers,” according to staff. “Without this partnership, the dogs would be facing overcrowding, disease and probable euthanasia. Most of our kittens are orphans who have been bottle-fed and raised lovingly from a very young age, sometimes just a few days old. They are extremely well socialized and get along well with other cats.”

Adopter John Boyd says, “I have had four cats since I got married, and didn’t think I’d want any more after our last two cats passed away from old age. But then I met Tigger and Flower, two bottle-raised kittens from Friends for Life. I have never had two sweeter and more loving cats. They have quickly won over our hearts and are much more affectionate to us and to each other than our other cats were at a similar age. I would highly recommend adopting a cat from FFL!”

All of Friends for Life’s animals have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and treated for internal and external parasites (worms, fleas). In addition, the kittens have all tested negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV.
