A fund-raiser promising to deliver something quite different will be the seventh annual Orcas Island Education Foundation Food for Thought Benefit Thursday evening at 6 p.m. Nov. 20 at Camp Orkila.

All proceeds go to support our public schools.

Beneath an underwater canopy of light and fantasy artfully created by Julie Remington, guests will be treated to a “walking feast” while vying for silent and live auction items and contributing to important school programs.

Seafood, duck and vegetarian delicacies will be prepared and presented by Karen Campbell and Gil Becerra of Chimayo and Geddes Martin of Ship Bay.

Rich Koby of Sysco Corporation will be personally carving your favorite slice of beef served on fresh rolls from The Bakery on San Juan, while Bruce Orchid will offer up Buck Bay oysters topped with Christina’s herb sauce.

Janet Brownell, Deborah Nichols and Art Lange round out the evening’s menu with delicious shrimp, artichoke, cheese and vegetable items.

Four different desserts prepared by some of the best dessert divas on the Island: Coleen O’Brien, Stella Padbury, Mia Kartiganer and Rochelle Severson add the finishing touch.

OIEF’s annual Food for Thought Auction Benefit is its most important fundraising effort involving the entire community supporting our public schools.

“Because of the enormous volunteer backing and generosity of all those involved in this fundraiser, almost all monies raised in the silent and live auctions will go directly to support our incredible public schools which regularly rank among the top in the state,” says Michelle Reed, OIEF board president.

Shuttles will be provided from the Orkila parking lot to the Lodge.

Tickets are now on sale at Darvill’s Bookstore, the Chamber of Commerce Office, and the Public Elementary School Office at $60 per person or $100 per couple.
