Orcas Center hosts the Third Annual Memorial Day Kids’ Fest, a series of five rousing performances that have been selected especially for Orcas children and family audiences. Adventurous adults will also enjoy these events, which include a dance concert, puppet theatre, talent show, magic and rock music. No ticket is more than $8.
Opening the 2008 Kids’ Fest on Wednesday, May 21 is a dance concert featuring Orcas Elementary first, second and third-graders. This brief 30-minute concert celebrates the first classroom instruction provided by the Orcas Arts Education Project. Admission is free but contributions to the Arts Education Project are gratefully accepted.
“Whale of a Show” is an Orcas tradition. This all-kid talent show on Thursday, May 22 will feature the stars of tomorrow, today. All tickets are $8.
On Friday, May 23, at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., the award-winning Tears of Joy Puppet Theatre will perform Little One Inch for all Orcas K-6 students. This performance is free for all public elementary school students. The general public will be admitted on a space-available basis, after all elementary students and teachers are seated.
On Friday evening, Orcas Center presents “Steve the Pretty Good,” whose original blend of comedy and magic will have the audience engaged, in awe and laughing. All tickets are $8.
To complete 2008 Kids’ Fest is Recess Monkey, a rock band that deliver great vocals, instrumentals and stories that are both educational and fun! Parents and grandparents will bop along to this music too, as it will transform them back to their days of youth during the British Invasion! All audience members at the matinee performance of Recess Monkey are invited to enjoy free ice cream, courtesy of Orcas Kiwanis.
