Iris Parker-Pavitt and Makala Forster both received monetary awards and public recognition for their contributions to the Orcas Island Farm to Cafeteria Program on Friday, June 10 at the high school “Celebration of Success” ceremonies.
“Had it not been for these two kids, now beautiful young women, doing extraordinary things to create and build our Farm to Cafeteria Program it would not have happened,” said F2C Chair, Madie Murray when presenting the awards. “Since Makala asked why we could not serve fresh local organic food in our school cafeteria and Iris became the first student representative on the F2C Committee formed in 2008, the F2C Program has grown to include the K-6 Farm to Classroom Project, the Student Chef Competition, Fifth Season, Celebrity Chef days in the cafeteria, and a thriving, busy and beautiful school garden. For all that and so much more, we thank Iris and Makala for all they have done, and wish them well as they venture out into the world to do even more extraordinary things.”
