The Vikings golf team played friend and foe Lopez Island on April 6. Coach Bobby Olmsted, plagued by some tough weather this season, said conditions on Lopez could not have been better.
“Our goal was to play 18 holes and most players did. It was great to see some spectacular shots that day,” said Olmsted. “Zoe Lewis-Shunk and Manuel Rodriguez both drained amazing 35 foot birdies. Manuel shot an unbelievable best round and lowest of the season for the boys squad of 45. He said he was ready and he was. Rowan Lister was behind with a 57 along with Leif Gustafson with a 59 and Ewan Lister a 71. The boys lost to a team score of 204-224. The girls played to a no contest. Zoe shot at 48 followed by Emily Tombs 72. The work is starting to pay off for these players as they are showing signs of improvement each and every match.”
Orcas has two matches this week versus Grace Academy and Mt. Vernon Christian.
