On Monday, Dec. 15, at the Episcopal Church, 5th and 6th grade girls in Girl Scout Troop #172 filled 84 stockings with goodies for the children of families who receive food bank donations. This is the fourth year they have been doing this project and the number of stocking requests have increased every year. The girls love participating in this community service project and they do everything from decorating the stockings, to filling them with items, and taking the finished stockings to the food bank. This project will help the troop earn a community service award they are working towards this year.
The girl scouts received help from many community clubs and individuals, including The Orcas Realtors Association, Deborah Hansen, The Lions Club, Dr. Steve and Rita Bailey, Enzo’s, Vern’s Bayside, Rich and Cynthia Dahlinger-Koby, Justin and Amber Paulsen, The Kiwanis Club, George Garrels, Karen Blinn and Mary Minnis (who sewed the stockings), Erin O’Dell, The Bob and Maria Nutt Family, and Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
