Orcas Island Historical Museums presents a fascinating book written by Helene Glidden called “The Light on the Island.” Helene was one of the 13 lightkeepers’ children on Patos Island.
Mike McCloskey, publisher of San Juan Books, will share wonderful stories about Helene, who calls herself Angie in the story and what it was like growing up on Patos Island, the farthest American outpost on Georgia Strait.
McCloskey will tell about the missing chapters that were too risqué to print in 1951 when the book was first published. A video presentation rounds out an informative and entertaining afternoon. The History Matinee will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 15 at the Eastsound Fire Hall and is a free community event.
