San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
April 11
• An Orcas Deputy responded to a hit-n-run call that occurred a few days prior. A statement and photographs were taken. There are no suspects at this time.
• A Lopez Island deputy came upon two trees that had fallen down, completely blocking Aleck Bay Road. A public works crew was dispatched to clear the trees.
• A Lopez Island business owner called regarding an abandoned vehicle left on private property.
April 12
• A Lopez Island deputy was sent to investigate a 911 hang-up call. No problem was found at the residence, and the 911 call was believed to have been inadvertent.
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a suspicious circumstance in Friday Harbor.
• A deputy initiated a traffic stop in Friday Harbor and the driver was issued a citation failure to obey stop sign and a warning for not having proof of current insurance and having an expired registration.
• A Lopez deputy was contacted regarding a landlord and tenant dispute.
April 13
• Deputies were dispatched to a mentally unstable person in Friday Harbor. Contact was made with the person, who was then transported to a medical facility for evaluation.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for not having license plates. The passenger was then arrested on two felony warrants and for drug possession.
• A deputy took a report of a vandalism on county property. Graffiti was found and a known suspect’s tag was used.
• Deputies were dispatched to a report of domestic violence in Friday Harbor. The suspect was arrested for domestic assault fourth degree.
April 14
• A Lopez Fire and EMS requested a deputy for a reckless burning incident.
• A Lopez deputy was contacted regarding a possible protection order violation. The involved parties were interviewed and an informational report was completed.
• An Orcas deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with expired registration. Upon contact, it was learned that the driver’s license was suspended and did not have insurance on the vehicle. The driver was cited for the offenses.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a reported animal problem.
• A deputy responded to a reported fraud at Kings Market in Friday Harbor. The deputy met with the caller, gathered the evidence and completed a report.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for 43 mph in a 25 mph zone.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for speeding 43 mph in a 25 mph.
• A Lopez Island woman was stopped by a deputy for speeding on Fisherman Bay Road. She was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence, resisting arrest and assault in the fourth degree. She was lodged in jail in Friday Harbor pending a court appearance.
April 15
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a single vehicle collision.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to the school’s administration building for a reported vandalism. It appeared that someone tried to pry the front door open, damaging the frame.
• A small black dog was taken to Orcas Animal Protection Society.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for having an expired registration. The driver was issued a criminal citation for failure to transfer title within 45 days and a citation for not having a valid operator’s license nor identification, no insurance and with an expired registration over two months.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for expired vehicle registration. The driver was issued a citation for having an expired registration over two months.
April 16
• A citizen brought a credit card case and its contents to the dispatch window in Friday Harbor. The citizen stated he had found the items on First Street, on the sidewalk fronting the Golden Triangle Restaurant. All items were wet, but otherwise in decent condition.
• A deputy responded to a report of a welfare check in Friday Harbor. The deputy spoke with the individual and referred them to Compass Health.
• A Lopez deputy was called regarding an on-going neighbor dispute over the use of an easement between properties.
• A deputy responded to a residential burglary in the Olga area. An unknown person(s) attempted to pry open several doors on a single residence but was not able to gain entry.
• A Lopez Island woman reported a computer fraud scam in which she received a security alert warning on her computer directing her to call a help desk that then requested payment for tech support.
April 17
• A Friday Harbor deputy issued a citation to two separate drivers for failing to stop at stop sign.
• Deputies were dispatched to a verbal domestic in Friday Harbor. It was only verbal and both parties separated for the evening.
• A deputy responded to an apparent assault which occurred at a business in Eastsound. The investigation revealed that a middle-aged male walked up and slapped another male sitting in a chair. Video surveillance was obtained. The identity of the suspect is still being sought.
