Orcas Recycling Services/The Exchange announced it will be holding its second “Trashion Fashion Show” at 2 p.m. during the “Exchange at The Grange” Swap Meet, on Saturday, May 26, 2018 (Memorial Day Weekend). The Swap Meet will be held at the Orcas Island Grange Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Local artists, designers, and models of all ages are encouraged to participate. Outfits should be created using recycled, reclaimed, and found materials and prizes will be awarded for the most creative, sustainable fashion. Two workshops will be offered at The Exchange prior to the event to help with ideas, provide the opportunity to collaborate with others, and to offer available supplies. Check our Facebook page or the Exchange website at exchangeorcas.org for details.
Asifa Pasin, a native of Chicago who moved to Orcas eight years ago, is utilizing her background to help make the event a success. “A new generation of zero-waste and eco-consciousness is emerging with the focus on reducing, reusing and recycling, as well as re-designing,” says Pasin. “We hope to inspire and encourage creativity while educating and raising environmental awareness.”
Grace McCune will emcee the event and DJ Bodhicypha will provide catwalk-worthy jams. This year’s “Trashion Fashion” event is partnering with the annual Pet Parade that begins the same day at 12 p.m. in Eastsound. All fashion-forward pets are invited to participate at the show and strut their stuff alongside their owners.
