A driver reportedly struck a 10-year-old boy and drove away from the scene.
On Friday, Oct. 19 at 3:30 p.m., an Orcas deputy responded to a call of a hit and run at the intersection of North Beach and Mt. Baker Roads.
The child’s father, who was not present at the time, notified police after a witness saw the incident and called him. The boy did not sustain injuries and continued on to his destination.
According to the victim, he was on Mt. Baker Road attempting to cross the intersection with North Beach Road. He saw a car stopped at the stop sign and the driver motioned for him to cross, so he began walking with his bicycle. Then another car turned and clipped the front tire of his bike, causing him to fall to the ground. The bike sustained damage to the front rim, pedal and derailleur.
The witness said the female suspect’s vehicle was a “rose red” Subaru Outback from the early 2000s. The witness also said the vehicle continued on into town after striking the boy. A deputy searched the area and could not find the car.
