Hannah Arily Karine Beemer became the first baby of 2019 born on Orcas Island.
She was delivered on Jan. 7, at 11:57 p.m. at Island Hospital in Anacortes. Besides the title, she and her parents, Kristen Nimmo and Eric Beemer, win $50 from the Islands’ Sounder baby derby.
“She is absolutely perfect,” Kristen said.
Weighing 6 lbs, 8 oz and measuring 18 inches long, Hannah is the couple’s first child, although she does have two half brothers on Eric’s side. They do not live on Orcas, however, so she will not be meeting them immediately.
Eric was raised on Orcas and works in the construction industry. He met Nimmo at her place of work, the Island Market, where she is the bakery manager.
“He was always coming in and flirting with me,” Kristen laughed.
Baby Hannah was born via cesarean section, which doctors had advised would be better on Kristen’s body. They had originally scheduled the procedure for Jan. 14.
“My water broke on Jan. 7, so she clearly had other plans,” Kristen explained.
On Jan. 10, the new family returned home, where baby derby prizes await.
