MaryAnn Carpenter (Adams), age 82, of Deer Harbor, Orcas Island, Washington, passed away on Wednesday, January 9th, 2019 in the comfort and presence of her family.
She was born to Audrey O. Adams (Loftis) on November 2nd, 1936 in Beresford, South Dakota and moved to Anacortes with her family at the age of eight, where she spent the remainder of her childhood before graduating Anacortes High School Class of 1955.
MaryAnn spent 1956 – 1974 married to her first husband, Gary E. Plummer. Together they shared five children and moved to Orcas Island in 1968.
In 1976 MaryAnn married the love of her life, Norman Carpenter. Norm and MaryAnn both shared an infectious love of family and life. Together they built and ran the Cayou Quay Marina in Deer Harbor and were known for hosting lively gatherings of friends, family and loved ones. MaryAnn had a knack for making all feel welcomed and loved. Her dear Norman, as well as sister Peggy Shadle (Loftis) precede MaryAnn in passing.
MaryAnn is survived and cherished by children Vickie Kimple, Beth Plummer, Deborah Plummer, Michael Plummer, and Melinda (and Steve) Skogseth; brothers Jim (and Nancy) Loftis of Anacortes, Bill (and Maxine) Loftis of Wickenburg AZ, and Larry (and Dianne) Stafford of Ipswich, SD. MaryAnn also leaves behind a beloved family of 18 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, many Aunt’s and Uncle’s, cousins, nieces and nephews, and close friends. A vibrant light to many, she will be missed greatly by all.
A Celebration of Life was held on Orcas Island at the American Legion January 13th, 2019.
