Orcas Christian School students in the first and second grades have been studying flight as part of their curriculum.
It is somewhat unusual for a class to experience flight firsthand (or even in a simulator), but thanks to local pilots, these students were able to go on a field trip they will remember for a long time. Two Orcas pilots not only took the students up in the air on a plane, but they were also allowed to take turns sitting in the cockpit as copilots. This was hands-on learning fun at its best.
Understanding how the forces of flight work by just reading a textbook, or even watching film, would not have been quite the same educational experience. Students got a tour of a hangar and saw the engine, cabin and cockpit of a plane. Everyone had a great time and we are truly appreciative for this unique and memorable day.
