The unique and fascinating work with folded paper circles developed by sculptor Bradford Hansen-Smith will be featured at Orcas Center throughout March. All models in this show are folded paper circles, mostly paper plates, reconfigured and joined in multiples, much like cell growth.
In Hansen-Smith art, a simple circle is transformed over and over again into countless iterations of geometric shapes. Inspired by Buckminster Fuller, who first made spheres of paper plates, Hansen-Smith expanded his work into elaborate pyramids, helixes, stars and spirals.
Hansen-Smith is a working artist and also a teacher in the process of exploring geometry through folding paper. While on Orcas, he will be presenting several workshops, some open to everyone.
