As most residents of Orcas are aware, this winter was particularly hard on Moran State Park. The early February windstorm caused severe damage to buildings, trails, campgrounds and day-use areas (see article in the Islands’ Sounder, Feb. 7, 2019).
While staff and various volunteer groups had already done tremendous work in clearing trails, there was still much to be done on April 13 when the Friends of Moran held its annual clean-up. Our wonderful local community came out in force, despite the cold rainy weather!
It was so heartening to see our local folks show up with gloves, rakes and shovels, and pitch in to get things back in shape for the season.
We want to express our sincere thanks to everyone who braved the weather and pitched in. The day-use area at Cascade Lake looks ready for the season, and it’s due to your continued support of this island jewel.
