I would like to express a huge thank you to the EMTs of the Orcas Island Fire and Rescue team. They responded so quickly to my call at zero dark-thirty Monday morning, July 1. These friends and neighbors used their skills, their expertise, kindness and professionalism while keeping me reassured and calm. In a matter of minutes I was being assessed, then transported to the helicopter and on my way to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Thank you Rita Harvey, Bob Nutt, Patrick Shepler and the rest of the crew that attended whose names I don’t remember. In the past I have volunteered for many functions, but I have never had to take classes and get trained to do it, on my own time and at my own expense. So, thank you for your long shifts, your time and dedication. Thank you for leaving your home and family to help me, and for your commitment. The team worked expertly in unison and alleviated my anxiety by explaining everything that they were doing and why. Patrick gave me immediate relief from pain and discomfort so I could travel. It was at that point I was quite sure that either Patrick or the Dilaudid was my new best friend. In under 45 minutes I was on my way to surgery.
We are so fortunate to have this group of dedicated and caring people in our community.
