The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following.
Aug. 14
• A San Juan deputy responded to a walk-in report of a possible drug issue. The reporting party completed a written statement, a report was made and the report was forwarded to a detective for a follow-up interview.
• A resident reported out-of-season crab pots in Shoal Bay off Lopez Island. Upon investigation, the crab pots were identified as part of lawful tribal fishery activity.
Aug. 15
• A deputy in Friday Harbor took a report of vandalism.
• A deputy responded to a report of an erratic driver in Eastsound. The vehicle and driver were located and further investigation revealed probable cause to arrest the driver for driving under the influence. The driver was arrested, processed and released.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a suspicious motorhome parked on the side of the road. When the deputy investigated further, the motorhome was discovered to be inoperable and had been abandoned.
• A deputy investigated a report of household belongings dumped on a power company’s easement road in Eastsound.
• Lopez deputies investigated a burglary to a local business that occurred the previous night.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for expired tabs. The driver was issued citations for having an expired vehicle registration for more than two months, for not having insurance and for not being in possession of their driver’s license.
• A local business owner turned over found property to a Lopez deputy. The property’s owner was notified, and the property was secured pending pick up.
• A Lopez deputy checked on a possible abandoned vehicle. The vehicle is not operable and the owner will have it towed.
• Deputies in Friday Harbor were dispatched to a single-vehicle collision with possible injury. An investigation was completed and citations were issued for not having proof of insurance and for having an open marijuana container inside the vehicle.
• A deputy conducted a welfare check of a juvenile at a Lopez residence after Child Protective Services requested assistance with an investigation. The child was found to be in good health and there was no obvious evidence of neglect or abuse.
• A Lopez deputy performed a welfare check that was requested by a state agency.
• Orcas deputies responded to a report of a domestic assault on Clark Island. An investigation ensued and the suspect was arrested, transported off island and booked into the San Juan County jail for domestic violence assault in the fourth degree.
• A San Juan deputy issued a driver a citation for speeding 44 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a reported hit-and-run traffic collision in Eastsound in which the suspect was reported to be intoxicated. The suspect and the vehicle were not identified.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for a defective headlight. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of juveniles drinking alcohol aboard a ferry. Two under-age juveniles were arrested for possession.
Aug. 16
• A deputy was dispatched to a burglary in the Eastsound area.
• San Juan deputies were advised of a cold hit-and-run collision.
• A deputy on Lopez investigated a reported trespassing incident at a residence. The property owner requested that the perpetrator be served with a criminal trespass warning letter. The perpetrator was issued a warning letter and told he could be arrested if he failed to comply.
• A San Juan deputy issued a driver a citation for speeding 47 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone.
• When deputies in Friday Harbor responded to a citizen dispute, they found that one party had left, that the incident was verbal in nature and no crime was reported.
Aug. 17
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for a defective headlight. The driver was arrested for driving on a suspended license and received citations for having a defective headlight, not having insurance and failing to notify the department of licensing of a change of address.
• San Juan deputies responded to request for a welfare check. Vague information was given and the involved party was unable to be located.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a burglary call in the Eastsound area.
• Deputies on Lopez responded to a report of an assault. A male subject was arrested for assault in the fourth degree.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a vehicle swerving “all over the road.” The vehicle was located and the driver identified.
• The driver was subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs.
• And Orcas issued a driver a citation for driving 43 mph in a 35 mph zone on Orcas Road and arrested them for driving under the influence.
• Orcas deputies along with Orcas Island Fire and Rescue responded to a motor vehicle accident in the Olga area. The driver left the scene before the units arrived and was unable to be located. The vehicle was impounded, and a report was taken.
Aug. 18
• A deputy on Lopez stopped the driver of a vehicle for having a defective headlight. The driver was then issued a citation for not having insurance.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a juvenile suffering from alcohol poisoning. The juvenile was contacted and an investigation commenced.
• A Lopez deputy was sent to check on a report of a flock of sheep running at-large in the road. The animals were gone when the deputy arrived.
• A deputy ticketed an unattended vehicle in the ferry line as the 10:45 a.m. sailing from Lopez to Anacortes began loading.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for a defective brake light. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the second degree.
• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a theft and documented the incident.
• A dog running at-large on Center Road on Lopez prompted a call to deputies. The dog’s owner was identified and picked up the dog.
• A Decatur Island homeowner reported to deputies that someone had tampered with the water system on their property.
• A Lopez deputy ticketed an unattended vehicle left in the ferry line while the 2:40 p.m. sailing to Anacortes was loading.
• A resident on Lopez reported the theft of a power tool from their property.
• On Orcas, a deputy issued a driver a citation for speeding 49 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Aug. 19
• A deputy in Friday Harbor issued a driver citations for unsafe passing and for not having proof of insurance.
• Deputies on Lopez took a report of a hit-and-run collision that damaged a parked vehicle.
• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a theft and documented the incident.
• A deputy on Lopez responded to a business who stated they would like to have a person restricted from their property. The deputy located the subject and served them with a do not trespass letter.
• A San Juan deputy placed a juvenile on Lopez in custody for a curfew violation. After an investigation, the juvenile was arrested for possession of marijuana under the age of 21.
• A deputy in Friday Harbor was dispatched to a reported trespassing. The suspect was cited for second-degree trespassing and was released.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a subject in crisis after a person made a social media post that concerned several citizens. The deputy was able to make contact with the individual.
Aug. 20
• A deputy was dispatched to a harassment call in the Eastsound area. An informational report was taken, and the investigation determined no crime had been committed.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for having an expired registration. The driver was issued a citation for having an expired registration, for not having insurance, for not having registration in the vehicle and for not having a valid operator’s license with identification.
• A Lopez deputy ticketed an unattended vehicle left in the ferry line during the loading of the 10:45 a.m. sailing to Anacortes.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver for expired registration and issued them a citation for not wearing a seat belt.
• An Orcas deputy issued a boat owner a citation for violating San Juan County Code 10.28.010, mooring at a public landing.
• A San Juan deputy contacted a juvenile who was violating a curfew. The juvenile was transported to his residence.
