“Global Migration” with Dr. James Loucky

The Orcas Public Library presents “Global Migration” with Dr. James Loucky Saturday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m.

Worldwide over 65 million people have been displaced due to war, famine, persecution, violence, human rights violations, or environmental crisis. Join Loucky as he discusses current world migration realities and associated U.S. policy. What are the humanitarian, economic, environmental, and political issues? How do we develop humane policies for the housing and care of refugees and migrants? Dr. Loucky is a Professor of anthropology at Western Washington University whose interests revolve around human migration, borders, and how humanity can respond effectively to the shared challenges associated with a rapidly changing planet. He has authored or edited a number of publications on global migration. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Orcas Island Library.
