What is a Boo-seum?
Every year the Orcas Island Historical Museum in Eastsound is transformed into a Boo-seum in October for Halloween.
Saturday, Oct. 26, will be the kick-off party with crafts, storytelling, games, treats, and a photo booth. There is also a not-so-scary tour through the Haunted Museum. Oh, wait! There is one very scary room. There is something for everyone and for all ages.
The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, noon-3 p.m. The tours, crafts and treats continue for Boo-seum Week until Nov. 2. This is a free community event. Trick or Treaters will be especially welcomed on Halloween.
Camp Orkila fall events
Orkila’s Super Spooky Haunted Hayride is on Saturday, Oct. 26, 7-8:45 p.m. The hayride is recommended for older children and adults. It leaves every 20 minutes from Camp Orkila’s Pond area.
Join Orkila for a free afternoon of fun on Sunday, Oct. 27, 1:30-5:30 p.m. during the Fall Festival.
“We will have games, archery, climbing wall, zip line*, cider pressing, yummy food, music, animals and MORE! Let’s celebrate together!” say organizers.
*Please note you must be in 3rd grade or above to ride the zipline and have a parent/guardian present to sign waiver.
‘Rocky Horror Show’ on Orcas Center main stage
Opening Halloween night, director Deborah Sparks mounts an artistic and stylized production of the cult sci-fi musical at Orcas Center. With an imaginative set design by Sparks and Chris Brems, the show kicks off the 2019-2020 season with a dose of lightheartedness: a couple hours of ridiculous fun.
Jake Perrine is the technical director and Grace McCune is the musical director. “The Rocky Horror Show” runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from Oct. 31 – Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. with an additional late-night show on both Saturdays at 10 p.m.
The earlier show is rated PG-13 while the late-night offering is rated R. Tickets range in price from $15 – $47 on www.orcascenter.org.
Drop off Halloween candy for Bonnie Brae
Halloween candy donations for Bonnie Brae homeowners to hand out can now be dropped off at Islanders Bank in Eastsound. More than 200 trick or treaters visit the housing community.
Islanders can also donate money to the Bonnie Brae Halloween Fund. Candy and financial donations will be accepted until Oct. 31.

Trick-or-treat for books
Orcas Library will host a “Trick-or-Treat for Books” in the community room from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Orcas Library. Kids are invited to come in their costumes and pick out a book to take home. Light, healthy snacks will be provided for hungry ghouls and goblins.
Orcas Community Church Fall Carnival
The community church will be hosting its annual Fall Carnival on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m. Children and adults are all welcome, and costumes are encouraged. There is free food and apple cider offered, as well as games, activities and prizes for kids of all ages. An hour of bingo will begin at 5:30 p.m. This event is held in OICC’s main building and provides great, clean fun for everyone. For more info, call 360-376-6422.
Halloween dance
The Odd Fellows Halloween Dance is on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 8:30 p.m. It features live music by local band The Elements. There are best costume prizes, raffle winners are announced, and the dance is always a lot of fun. It is family friendly. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for kids. This is the Odd Fellows annual fundraiser for the Odd Fellows Scholarship and Community Giving Fund.
