The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.
June 29
• A cell phone was turned in at the sheriff’s office in Friday Harbor.
• A deputy responded to a request from a member of the community who wanted to turn over an old box of ammunition to the sheriff’s office. The box of ammunition was received for disposal.
• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a welfare check involving a person with dementia.
• The reporting deputy was dispatched to an agency assist in the San Juan area. The deputy checked the provided address but the person was not there.
• A deputy, called about a dog running at large on Lopez, quickly reunited the dog with its family.
• A deputy located and arrested a local resident with an active warrant issued out of San Juan County District Court. The person was booked into jail awaiting a next-day hearing.
• A Lopez deputy was called about a violation of a domestic violence no-contact order.
• An Orcas deputy took a report of a possible vandalism incident that occurred on Obstruction Island.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for not having a valid operator’s license with identification.
• A San Juan deputy took a report of unwanted contact from an out-of-state subject who was emailing a resident despite her wishes to the contrary.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of fraud. The incident was documented and the reporting party was advised of available resources.
• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a residential burglary call.
• A Lopez deputy provided a courtesy transport to a citizen who was stranded at the ferry terminal late at night due to car complications.
June 30
• A deputy was dispatched to a report of threats in the Friday Harbor area. The sheriff’s office attempted to confirm the location of the person making the threats. After an investigation, it was determined the person was believed to be out of state. A probable cause statement was sent to the prosecuting attorney’s office.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a death. The coroner was contacted and it did not appear the death involved any suspicious circumstances. The deceased was released to the funeral home.
• A deputy took a report of a lost pair of Apple Airpod earbuds in Friday Harbor which were entered into the lost property log.
• Orcas deputies conducted a welfare check on an elderly man who is in the early stages of dementia. The subject was found to be fine.
• A San Juan deputy investigated an animal problem call in Friday Harbor.
• Orcas deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the Eastsound area. The suspect was arrested and transported to Friday Harbor to be booked into the San Juan County Jail.
• A San Juan merchant called 911 about a very intoxicated customer who just drove away from their business. A deputy found the driver of the vehicle and arrested them for driving under the influence.
July 1
• A Lopez deputy responded to a noise complaint call. A citizen was listening to their television at high volume late at night. The citizen was contacted and agreed to lower their volume.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to an accident with injury near Country Corner. One of the involved parties was flown off-island as a precaution for possible back injuries. No one else was injured.
• Deputies on Orcas responded to a possible domestic violence situation near Eastsound that was called in by a third party. After searching the area, the possible parties could not be located or contacted.
• Orcas deputies responded to a local business about a person who management wanted trespassed from the business and property. A trespass warning letter was served.
• An Orcas deputy stopped a driver for a seat belt violation. The driver was issued a citation for the seat belt violation, for not having proof of insurance, and for an open alcohol container.
• A deputy stopped a motorist in the Lopez Village after he saw her driving while not wearing a seat belt. The deputy issued the driver a ticket for the violation.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped a driver for not wearing a seatbelt. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped and arrested a driver with a suspended license. The driver was issued a criminal citation for driving with a suspended license-third degree.
• A driver on Lopez was stopped and issued a citation for failing to wear his seat belt.
• A deputy stopped and ticketed a motorist near the Lopez Village for speeding, 40 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.
• A Lopez deputy stopped a motorist on Fisherman Bay Road and ticketed them for speeding.
July 2
• A deputy located a local person with an active warrant on San Juan. The person was arrested and booked into jail without incident.
• A San Juan deputy took a theft report from a person who reported having cash and credit cards stolen from her wallet during a wedding ceremony at a local state park. No suspect information was available.
• A San Juan deputy took a report of missing property and several landlord-tenant complaints.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a local business for an out-of-control subject who punched an ATM. The subject was later located and issued a trespass notice.
July 3
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a collision. The juvenile driver was arrested for taking a motor vehicle without permission.
• An Orcas deputy took a report of a vehicle prowl that occurred behind a business on North Beach Road. The victim’s car was ransacked, but nothing appeared to be stolen.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a reported fight in progress in Lopez Village. The fight was over and the involved parties had left the scene but were identified by witnesses.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a driver traveling 44 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone, and issued them a citation for speeding.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped and cited a driver for using a personal electronic device while driving and for not having insurance.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a driver for traveling 54 in a posted 35 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding and a warning.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a weapons offense callback.
• Deputies on Orcas responded to a disorderly person complaint. The subject was arrested for obstructing a public servant.
• A Lopez deputy contacted a Lopez who was launching fireworks and reminded them that personal fireworks are prohibited in San Juan County, and the burn risk is currently high due to dry weather.
July 4
• Lopez deputies responded to a noise complaint about loud music late at night. The music source was located and the music listeners agreed to lower the volume.
• An Orcas deputy was asked to conduct a welfare check and found the subject was deceased.
• A deputy responded to an abandoned vehicle in the roadway on Dolphin Bay Road on Orcas. An investigation revealed the driver swerved to avoid a raccoon and collided with a fence.
• An Orcas deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding on Olga Road and cited them for speeding, 47 mph in a 35 mph zone.
• A Lopez deputy stopped and ticketed a driver for speeding, 50 mph in a 35 mph zone on Center Road.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a dog at large. Since the dog had no tags nor any contact numbers, it was taken to the Animal Protection Society.
• A Lopez deputy stopped and ticketed a driver for speeding, 54 mph in a 35 mph zone on Mud Bay Road.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped a driver for not wearing a seatbelt. Subsequently, the driver was issued citations for the seat belt violation, for not being in possession of a driver’s license, and for having a child under 13 years old in the front seat.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a possible hit and run. The incident was documented for insurance purposes since there are no suspects or workable leads at this time.
• A San Juan deputy stopped and issued a driver of a vehicle citations for not wearing a safety belt and for operating a vehicle without insurance. The driver had received a warning earlier in the day for no safety belt.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a driver for not wearing a safety belt. The driver was issued citations for failing to wear a safety belt and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a citizen assist. Upon contact, the deputy observed the person under the influence of drugs and in physical control of a motor vehicle. The citizen was arrested for physical control of a vehicle under the influence.
• San Juan deputies located a suspect wanted on a warrant and found them in violation of multiple traffic offenses. The suspect was booked and the case was sent to the prosecutor.
• Orcas deputies responded with Orcas Fire & Rescue to an animal bite call.
• Deputies responded to a third-party report of a domestic violence incident. Once there, the deputies found the parties involved were gone. One of the involved parties was contacted via telephone but refused to cooperate or identify the other person.
• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of people riding dirt bikes on the elementary school fields. Once the deputy arrived, the subjects had left. No other information was provided to investigate further.
• Orcas deputies responded with Orcas Fire and Rescue to an assault in the Deer Harbor area. One of the subjects was flown off the island for medical treatment.
• Orcas deputies were dispatched with Orcas Fire & Rescue to a rollover motor vehicle accident with occupants trapped inside. Once there, rescue personnel found all the occupants had self-extricated and were evaluated by emergency services.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped a driver on Roche Harbor Road for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a vehicle collision on Fisherman Bay Road. The driver’s vehicle drifted and collided with two other vehicles parked on the side of the road. Information was exchanged, a report was taken, and the driver received a citation for negligent driving in the second degree.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped a driver for speeding on Tucker Avenue. The driver was issued a citation for 46 mph in a 25 mph speed zone.
July 5
• A Lopez driver was issued a citation for traveling 59 mph in a 45 mph zone.
• Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Decatur Island.
• A resident reported finding a deer on Lopez that had been shot out of season.
• A Lopez medic and deputy searched for a cyclist who was reported missing and eventually located at the ferry dock.
• A Lopez deputy took an information report of a minor collision for insurance purposes.
• An unattended vehicle in the Lopez ferry line disrupted the loading process and the vehicle’s owner received a citation.
• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a report of a stolen vehicle.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of an assault. A subject was arrested and booked into jail for first-degree and second-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon and for driving under the influence.
