On July 30, 2021, Thomas Patrick Murdock passed peacefully away in the arms of his wife, Leslie. Their children, Marlee Murdock, Brooke MacPhee and Geoffrey White were present either in person or electronically. Tom also had three granddaughters, Quinn MacPhee, Isabella and Maricella White, who were the apples of his eye. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Muriel Murdock, and his brother, Stephen, all of Los Angeles, California.
Tom and Leslie purchased their property on Orcas Island about 1987. After retiring from the corporate world, they moved from their Hermosa Beach, CA home to Orcas in July 2002. Tom was active in Emmanuel Episcopal Parish, bringing the cloth labyrinth to Orcas, presenting Taize services, teaching Centering Prayer and Education for Ministry classes, and was in charge of the church during the time there was no rector. As part of his outreach and social justice concerns, he started Emmanuel’s monthly Dinner Kitchen program and served on the boards of Orcas Center and the Orcas Island Food Bank. His other interests included sailing, bicycle riding, tennis, walking his greyhound and learning about wine.
Living on Orcas fulfilled a dream for Tom. He combined his great faith and concern for others with a wonderful, dry sense of humor. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service for Tom is currently unscheduled due to pandemic restrictions.
