The Vikings lost to the Concrete Lions in Orcas’ homecoming game, but it was a tough, gritty game against the fifth-ranked team in their state league.
The final score was 0-20, with two Lions’ touchdowns in the first half and a two-point conversion, making the score 14-0 in the first half. A third touchdown in the second half cinched the deal for the Lions.
The Vikings gained 187 yards rushing and 60 yards passing. The leading rusher was Tyler Nigretto with 16 carries for 60 yards.
Coach Dennis Dahl said, “I thought we played well. It would have been nice to get a win; we fumbled the ball and that happens – sometimes for you and you’re lucky, this time the luck was with the other team. But we played hard to the end.
“We moved and controlled the ball several times; we just couldn’t get a touchdown.”
The next Viking game is Friday, Oct. 10 at Darrington.
