Many islanders and visitors had the wonderful opportunity to experience the powerful line up of films, presented at the Orcas Island Film Festival this past October. There were 16 films that screened over the 5-day weekend and attendees were thrilled to be back in the theatre again.
One film that was an absolute stand out was “The Rescue,” and the Orcas Island Film Festival will present this film with an award for Best Documentary Feature and show it again at the Sea View Theatre, Thursday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.
From Academy Award-winning “Free Solo” filmmakers, “The Rescue” chronicles the enthralling, against-all-odds story that transfixed the world in 2018: the daring rescue of twelve boys and their coach from deep inside a flooded cave in Northern Thailand. Using a wealth of never-before-seen material and exclusive interviews, E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin keep viewers on the edge of their seats as they bring alive one of the most perilous and extraordinary rescues in modern times, shining a light on the high-risk world of cave diving, the astounding courage and compassion of the rescuers, and the shared humanity of the international community that united to save the boys.
All of the same COVID safety protocols and ticketing system as the festival including advance reserved seating will be in place for this screening. Proof of vaccine required and masks except when eating or drinking. Concessions & Bar will be open. Tickets are $15.00 and you can purchase tickets and reserve your seats in advance at http://www.orcasfilmfest.com.
