May 28: The bite was just the beginning for an Orcas Island man, a fugitive from Wisconsin, who was taken into custody on a felony warrant a couple of days after his two-year-old pit bull bit the leg of a female friend as she jogged by his North Beach Road home. The 34-year-old, who opted not to contest extradition in court, was slated to be turned over to authorities in Wisconsin, where, according to court documents, he faces a pair of felonies for owing more than $15,000 in unpaid child support.
June 6: An Orcas Island man whose sailboat ran aground in Swift’s Bay on Lopez Island while he was reportedly passed out onboard was arrested for BUI, or boating under the influence. The 56-year-old was taken into custody near the south end of Humphrey Head at about 6:30 p.m.and his 32-foot sailboat was towed to Friday Harbor.
June 8: The apparent theft of 150 Euro bills at Orcas High School could end up costing an Orcas Island girl another $58 dollar in American money. The Euros were inside a backpack, which the 17-year-old reportedly stashed inside an unlocked locker, at the time they disappeared. Currently, one Euro equals 1.4 U.S. dollars.
