Orcas Island Fire & Rescue responded to a vehicle crash on Thursday, Oct. 29 at about 3 p.m. on Deer Harbor Road near Pole Pass.

The vehicle, a white Land Rover, was lodged upon an embankment at a 45-degree angle. The driver was still inside the vehicle, though uninjured, when the Deer Harbor fire truck arrived first on the scene.

Due to the precarious angle, the driver could not get out without danger of the vehicle rolling. The vehicle needed to be stabilized before the driver could exit safely. According to captain Maxx Jones of OIF&R, the driver was in the vehicle for a half hour.

When the rescue vehicle arrived, the Land Rover was stabilized, and the driver exited unharmed. The Land Rover was righted with the use of a tow truck. No additional damage was caused.

Responders on the scene included Robin Dyer, Dwight Guss, Rita Harvey, John Howard, Jeff Jones, Maxx Jones, Jeff Larsen, Bob Nutt, Gulliver Rankin, Julie Remington, George Schermerhorn, Steven Siler, Dylan Wachtel and Ian Wareham.

The driver told OIF&R that he was trying to avoid a deer in the road.
