Orcas man gets four months for Eastsound break-in

An Orcas Island man will serve four months in jail, or on work crew, in connection with the break-in and theft of computer equipment from an Eastsound business in late July.

On Sept. 26, Anthony Michael Kean, 20, pleaded guilty in San Juan County Superior Court to one count of second-degree burglary, a Class B felony. He was ordered to serve four months in jail and to pay $1,400 in fines and fees. He will be allowed, however, to serve four months on work crew in lieu of jail should he qualify for the program and at his own expense.

Kean, arrested July 24 in connection with the break-in and theft of $2,700 of computer equipment from Orcas Online, had initially been charged with second-degree burglary and with first-degree theft. He pleaded innocent when arraigned on the pair of felonies shortly after his arrest.

According to court documents, Kean was caught on surveillance video inside the North Beach Road business at the time the computer equipment disappeared. He reportedly assisted in recovering the missing equipment following his arrest.

A Class B felony, second-degree burglary carries maximum penalties of 10 years in prison, a $20,000 fine, or both; however, the standard range of sentencing set by the state is 3-8 months in jail. Kean was slated to begin serving the 4-month jail term on Monday.
